Budget 2016/2017

Quick Hits

With the relentless increase in the demand for and the cost of government services comes the reality that we, as commissioners, must adhere to spending limits to prevent an increase in property taxes. This will require setting priorities, as I will not vote for items as part of a total budget that could lead to an increase in property taxation rates.

For me, public safety (Sheriff, fire/rescue, EMS) and education are at the top of the list and really are the primary obligation of government In addition, there are other necessities, like the courthouse dome repair, that are costly and must be approved for obvious reasons.

Unfortunately, I believe that we will have to fund some programs at reduced levels and others not at all to have a balanced budget and maintain a safe fund balance for unanticipated contingencies.
